The Bell Model 206 "JetRanger" is one of the most successful helicopter designs in the world. It originated in the mid-1960s as an entry in a United States Army competition for a light observation (scout) helicopter. One of the most recognisable of modern helicopters thanks to its widespread use, variants of the JetRanger have been seen in many cinema productions including James Bond films—notably in the opening sequence of For Your Eyes Only—and television series, especially law enforcement dramas such as 24, but also memorably in the Treasure Hunt game show. The most widely used military helicopter, the Bell UH-1 series Iroquois, better known as the "Huey", began arriving in Vietnam in 1963. Before the end of the conflict, more than 5,000 of these versatile aircraft were introduced into Southeast Asia. "Hueys" were used for MedEvac, command and control, and air assault; to transport personnel and materiel; and as gun ships. Considered to be the most widely used helicopter in the world, with more than 9,000 produced from the 1950s to the present, the Huey is flown today by about 40 countries.

Our helicopter pilots are known throughout the industry & are renown for their exceptional flying skills.
Apart from our high standards, all our helicopters are maintained to the highest civil aviation standards in South Africa.
Sport Helicopters fly a Bell Jetranger 4 seater helicopter for filming. They remove one rear door for the photographer. Due to the door being off, this does slow the helicopter down slightly. Sport Helicopters can only accommodate a maximum of 3 passengers when filming and provide a monkey belt for the photographer, should this be required. Sport Helicopters does not provide any other equipment for filming.
Should you require mounts or special equipment you can contact us or chat to the Francois Marais (Chief Pilot) to check the limitations and what we can or cannot do.
Filming flights are quoted on request to the clients needs. All filming flights need to be discussed prior to take off with the pilot, as we do have height restrictions and CAA laws to abide with.
All filming flights are a minimum of half an hour flight time. The cost for filming is R20, 000 per hour VAT in and we charge it pro rata (according to flight time). All filming flights need to be paid for immediately after the flight by cash or credit card. For shorter flights Sport Helicopters can accommodate 2 people max @ R 10, 000 per 30 min, with a pro rata minimum of 30 minutes. A side door will also be removed for purposes of filming.
